Even though Can Tho is the largest city in the Mekong Delta, it feels like a village. Can Tho itself doesn’t have really significant dishes, but it has a lot of dishes popular in the Southern Vietnam. You can try all these dishes in restaurants, at the streets or at the lively food street: De Tham!

With a population of one million, Can Tho is the largest and also the most popular city in the Mekong Delta. With the famous base for floating markets it is nice to board a boat and sail around. With a lively waterfront and wide boulevards a perfect place to walk around and enjoy a breeze of wind. Can Tho also has the best restaurants in the Delta and outside the city center you will find breathtaking rice fields! Can Tho is very popular for its floating markets. Every morning boats with cargoes come to the markets to trade. It is very impressive to see how quick the market comes alive. And there is more, there are cutouts, tools and even coffins for sale, which is perhaps a bit lugubrious. Every boat is recognizable by a unique wickerwork of bamboo, which is attached to the front of the boat. Other two popular markets are Cai Rang and Phong Dien. Cai Rang is the biggest one and located 7 kilometers from Can Tho. It is very popular and usually overcrowded, so be prepared. Phong dien is less touristy than Cai Rang, but also really nice. A kindly atmosphere and more local population.
